Styles and types of hearing aids

There are several styles and types of hearing aids. Each type offers different advantages, depending on its design, levels of amplification, and size. Before purchasing any hearing aid, ask your registered hearing aid dispenser for a trial period. Most suppliers allow a 30 day trial period during which aids can be returned for a refund.

Generally In-the-ear and Behind-the-ear hearing aids are distinguished:

In-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids

In-the-ear hearing aids are customised to fit exactly into your ear. ITE’s that are built so small that they fit neatly into the ear canal making them nearly invisible are called CIC’s (completely-in-the-canal hearing aids).

Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids

Behind-the-ear hearing aids are getting more and more common. Due to the miniaturisation processes BTE’s are nowadays practically invisible and are available in attractive design housings.
