Are there any In the ear hearing aids for severe hearing losses? Thanks!
Hello Benjamin1, The problem with sending high levels of sound into the ear canal is that the sound may escape out of the ear which can be picked up by the microphone and re-amplified to cause whistling and feedback. This is avoided by placing the sound outlet and microphone as far apart as possible (like a behind-the-ear instrument) or by making a good acoustic seal in the canal. The battery and components tend to be bigger to provide extra power, therefore In-the-ear hearing aids tend to be larger. A qualified hearing aid audiologist would be able to suggest the most appropriate instruments.
